Forum: EasyBoot Topic: Load ezboot from grub4dos started by: Deadl2ose Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 25 2010,18:01
I have a headache today and my thought process is hurting. Anyway, I am loading grub4dos with "bcdw /ezboot/grldr" which than loads my (sub) menu for me to boot to kon-boot and/or Offline NT/2000/XP/Vista/7 Password Changer. My question is: How do I create a menu item that will go back to the main ezboot .ezb menu? I'm only doing it this way because i cannot get kon-boot to boot via ezboot directly. Posted by allgames71 on Oct. 25 2010,19:41
hello Deadl2oseI'm not sure I can answer your question properly. If you create a new submenu. You can assign an [Esc] key back to main menu instead of a button option like : 1. Offline NT/2000/XP/Vista/7 Password Changer 2. kon-boot 3. back to main menu Here I attach a picture for help. If can't help, I'm sorry that I misunderstand you. Sorry. Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 25 2010,22:00
I was talking about returning to ezboot menu through the grub4dos menu. Something like:title <--back find --set-root /EZBOOT/loader.bin chainloader /EZBOOT/loader.bin Only I can't figure out the exact commands. How did you get kon-boot and Offline to run via ezboot? Everything I tried didn't work through vmware or mobaliveCD Posted by allgames71 on Oct. 26 2010,05:24

@Deadl2oseQuote: ”cannot get kon-boot to boot via ezboot directly” I hope I’m not completely lost here ![]() I downloaded konboot as an ISO-file. Test this. 1. Open konboot-ISO-file (I used UltraIso) 2. Extract BOOT-file from ISO and save it as konboot.bif in folder ezboot 3. Create menu in EasyBoot and use menu command: run konboot.bif Note: as I said, I’m unsure if this is the right software I’m dealing with – but hopefully it is the right one ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And now to something completely different – I noticed you put grub “grldr” in folder ezboot and used command: bcdw /ezboot/grldr I tested this and it launched grldr but didn’t find the menu.lst (menu.lst was also in folder ezboot). But if I put grldr and menu.lst in folder disk1 and used command: bcdw /grldr it works alright ![]() I like the idea to have grldr in folder ezboot (it can open “new doors” for users of EasyBoot) – but I failed - what am I doing wrong here ![]() I’m trying to find a solution to jump back to EasyBoot menu ![]() balder Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 26 2010,13:05
@allgames71QUOTE title [4] Back to Main Menu I want this to go back to ezboot main menu. Also I see that you have konboot in your ezboot menu, how do u get it to run via ezboot?find --set-root /menu.lst configfile /menu.lst @balder Konboot is a small iso or floppy image. I tried the .bif file and it didnt work. It got the closest of all the methods though. Konboot would display its graphical start but then fail to actually load all the program parameters. Konboot iso by itself works fully in virtual machine or mobalivecd. The grldr way has memdisk as the kernel but I tried memdisk through ezboot and it didnt work. At this point i'm hoping i maybe had fat fingers and hit a wrong key cause i tried lots of ways and grldr was the only way i could get it working. I have grldr in EZBOOT folder and MENU.LST in disk 1 folder and it works great except my problem now of not being able to go back to ezboot menu. Hopefully you can think of something... @ Deadl2oseQuote: “At this point i'm hoping i maybe had fat fingers and hit a wrong key” He, he – you are not alone - it seems I use that “fat finger“ every day ![]() Anyway – let’s focus on the “jump back to EasyBoot menu”-problem. As grub isn’t DOS – we can probably not use the DOS-file “ezboot.com” (you have that file in folder “resources” in EasyBoot-folder itself). It is easy to jump back to EasyBoot menu from a DOS-floppy-image - but this is grub – and that is a different story The only way I can think about is to use the easyboot-grub-iso.script. When using this approach - EasyBoot-ISO-file is launched by grub – and we can of course jump back (launching ISO-file again from grub). However I think this is a complicated way to solve this issue – and I do not like to make things more complicated. I guess I don’t like solutions that looks like a “fat finger” ![]() It’s better to find out how to launch “konboot” – if possible. Thanks for clarifying where to put menu.lst ![]() EDIT: I burned konboot to CD-RW (took less than a minute) I rebooted and guess what – konboot doesn’t run fully out. It halts with EOT or something. I can go so far with Easyboot too – it’s looks like its something strange going on here My question is: what inputs did you have in menu.lst when launching konboot from grub menu ![]() Regards balder Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 26 2010,17:44
QUOTE I rebooted and guess what – konboot doesn’t run fully out. It halts with EOT or something. I can go so far with Easyboot too – it’s looks like its something strange going on here This got me thinking...and turns out I made a fat headed and not fat fingered mistake ![]() You need to have an actual password protected user account (and possibly only a 32bit system) for konboot to work. I was thinking it would display all user accounts and let me choose which to bypass the password for if any. Turns out I made a fat head mistake. The .bif that i tried and that you suggested will prob work although i did not test that directly. However, I did test "memdisk /images/konboot.gz" via ezboot directly and it works because this time I made a password protected account. ![]() oh well live and learn I guess. If you happen to come up with a way to navigate back to ezboot via the grub4dos though please do share. Thanks for you help! Posted by allgames71 on Oct. 26 2010,18:33
hello Deadl2ose,I'm sorry to tell you that I've never tried kon-boot. The first picture I posted to you is only a demo way to return to main menu, when I misunderstanded your question. Anyway, I know what is kon-boot. It can pass-by password of a user account. Actually I've download this program and tried long before. Even the original ISO file to cd I boot up, it also fail. That's why I gave it up. Of course if it works, I know it's much better than the other password changer programs. Because of you, now I'll try this program again. Hope we can help each other, thanks. hello Deadl2ose,I've download "konboot-v1.1-2in1" today from the official site and test the iso file in VMWare. It's bootable and with a hang up screen right the way So I burn it to a cdr, but when boot it up, the screen is all black forever. I wonder how you can test your kon-boot ? I even download the older verson of kon-bot 1.0, but the same thing happened. Would you mind to tell me how, which version and where you download it ? Thanks. Posted by madar on Oct. 27 2010,14:27
Dear Deadl2oseFor getting back from Grub4dos menu to ezboot menu ,i did as below and test was ok. 1.I placed BCDW folder in ..\disk1 directory (i used bcdw1.5 files for this test) 2.Placed files below in disk1 directory: XXXX.BIN (I will tell about this bin file in next step) BOOTCAT.INI (by command "\ezboot\loader.bin ;Run EasyBoot" grldr menu.lst by command below on it: -------------------------------- color blue/green yellow/red white/magenta white/magenta timeout 30 default /0 title ezboot Menu find --set-root /XXXX.BIN chainloader /XXXX.BIN --------------------------------------- 3.For XXXX.BIN ,i made an small project by bcdw1.5 ,and made iso of that ,then used bbie and got bootinfo bin file of that iso,and renamed that to XXXX.BIN and then placed that in disk1 directory 4.Used command below in easyboot: bcdw /grldr 5.Made final iso 6.Opened created iso by ultraiso and Add ed file "loader.bin" from ...\disk1\ezboot directory inside ezboot directory of iso and save. ============== thats all tested in virtualpc was ok Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 27 2010,16:49
@allgames71 Konboot 1.0 is latest. It says 1.1 on < Konboot > website but its wrong. 1.1 is payware. In vmware set up a password protected login account then boot konboot and all should work fine. I ran into problems too until i set up a login password. @madar Thanks! I'm going to try this in the next couple days. One thing i dont get though is QUOTE BOOTCAT.INI (by command "\ezboot\loader.bin ;Run EasyBoot" Did you just make text document and save it as bootcat.ini?
Posted by allgames71 on Oct. 27 2010,17:23
hello Deadl2ose,But even I write a cd and boot in the real computer, the screen became blank all over. That's why I can't go on to test it. Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 27 2010,18:54
Are you sure that the system is password protected and that its a 32bit operating system?
Posted by madar on Oct. 28 2010,03:59
I load BCDW by grub, then BCDW loads ezboot menu.so you need bootcat.ini .and add command above in BCDW's bootcat.ininote: When you make iso of easyboot, there will not be file "loader.bin" in ezboot"directory of iso.so you should add it to iso as i said in last line of my tutor have good days Posted by balder on Oct. 28 2010,13:02
@Deadl2ose@madar @allgames71 I’m pretty sure that tutorial from @madar works (they always do ![]() ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How to easily jump from Grub4dos menu to EasyBoot start menu ("main menu") ![]() 1. Copy grldr to folder disk1 (optional: you can launch grldr from inside of folder ezboot as well) 2. Copy text-file menu.lst to folder disk1 3. To launch grub (grldr) from EasyBoot menu, use command: bcdw /grldr 4. To jump back to your EasyBoot menu (I use here DEFAULT.EZB as example) put in grub command in text-file menu.lst: title Jump back to Easyboot menu find --set-root /EZBOOT/DEFAULT.EZB chainloader --raw /EZBOOT/DEFAULT.EZB Note1: You must jump back to your “main menu” (Start menu) as the “drive” is mapped to that menu when you launched EasyBoot (in my example “DEFAULT.EZB) You cannot jump to a second different ***.EZB menu – grub cannot “hook” the INT-13 (there is no “drive” to map). Note2: Take attention to that grub is case sensitive ![]() balder Posted by madar on Oct. 28 2010,13:15
Hi My dear friend bulderThanks ,i am going to try Posted by madar on Oct. 28 2010,16:20
Hi BalderI tested, your method works and is easier than mine. This topic has made me to work several hours to find solution. and now there are two methodes : mine and yours. and your way is better and easier Posted by balder on Oct. 28 2010,16:29
@madarQuote: ”and your way is better and easier” Thanks for nice feedback ![]() However – I’m trying to launch bcdw from grub (menu.lst) but this seems impossible ![]() Launching - jump to main menu in - EasyBoot menu is no problem – but that bcdw isn’t that easy ![]() I thought it could be handy to use bcdw in some rare occasions – to make EasyBoot even more powerful ![]() Note: Instead I can of course easy launch bcdw-1.50 from EasyBoot (run /bcdw/bcdw.bin) And hereby take advantages of the full power of bcdw – so in this respect bcdw can be used in some rare occasions But as we already have the major benefits of bcdw built-in to EasyBoot – I guess I leave it as it is – option to jump back to Easyboot menu from grub is hereby solved ![]() Regards balder Posted by madar on Oct. 28 2010,16:55
Dear friendwhen i was working to load bcdw by grub,i had the same problem.but you should note two points: 1.Using uppercase letters (as you have mentioned in many places). 2.For boot option ,as i said in my tutor ,first make iso of an small project by bcdw and then extract bootinfo of made iso and use that to be loaded by grub. i do not know why ,but the origional bcdw.bin can not be loaded by grub. Posted by balder on Oct. 28 2010,17:00
@madarQuote: “then extract bootinfo of made iso and use that to be loaded by grub” Thanks @madar – I’ll keep it in mind for future use ![]() Regards balder Posted by Deadl2ose on Oct. 28 2010,19:40

Quote: "I thought it could be handy to use bcdw in some rare occasions - to make EasyBoot even more powerful"I still use bcdw for my multiboot-dvd. Isolinux/syslinux and grub4dos are integrated into bcdw. Basically everything just works on my dvd (sardu, ubcd, hbcd, erd, any linux live incl. antivirus rescue iso, etc.). The limit is only the size of the dvd (~4.7 Gb). Grub4dos is not really necessary to be integrated to my design, just incase. I'm thinking to move to easyboot, but not sure if all my stuff will work ? By the way konboot on my multiboot-dvd work fine under grub4dos or syslinux. Have a good day, you all Posted by balder on Nov. 02 2010,03:54
@picaQuote: ”By the way konboot on my multiboot-dvd work fine under grub4dos” Yes that’s what I did using my grub4dos-“kicker-image" to launch konboot” ![]() I think you misunderstood me with this ![]() Bcdw is built-in to EasyBoot – the post was firstly how to jump back to EasyBoot menu from grub4dos (which was solved) but then post changed to about launching bcdw from grub4dos – which is a major difference. But as I pointed out – bcdw can already be used internally in EasyBoot – but it still can come in handy to launch bcdw directly from grub4dos – in some (very) rare occasions. Quote: “I'm thinking to move to easyboot, but not sure if all my stuff will work?” You are welcome ![]() Have a good day, yourself. balder Posted by tgoodwin on Dec. 17 2010,22:11
Hey all just had a question regarding jumping back and forth from grub to easyboot and vice versa. I post in this forum because I learned how to jump from grub to ezb in here. I am having problems getting ezb to go back to grub though. Any insight? I apologize if this has been posted before. Ive searched quite a bit and couldnt find anything related other than using bcdw which Im not using. Thanks Posted by balder on Dec. 18 2010,01:33
@tgoodwinQuote: ”problems getting ezb to go back to grub though” Answer: To launch grub (grldr) from EasyBoot menu, use command: bcdw /grldr OR You can test using a “grub-kicker-image” with menu.lst below (tested and working fine): find --set-root /wanted_grub_menu.lst configfile /wanted_grub_menu.lst Use “easyboot-kicker-image.script” to create “grub-kicker-image" 1. Insert menu.lst-lines in script from example above. 2. In script check “g-zip when creating Image” 3. Put in a nice short name for your “jump-Image” 4. Use memdisk “****img.gz” as menu command in EasyBoot menu Note1: Name "wanted_grub_menu.lst" is just a substitute for what your use (I’m nor familiar with what name or where you have your grub menu) - and I assume that "wanted_grub_menu.lst" is on the root of CD/DVD or USB device. Note2: change path accordingly to where “wanted_grub_menu.lst” resides if not on the root. Note3: Take attention to that grub is 100% case sensitiv when used in CD/DVD-unit and in Floppy images - but not case sensitiv when run from disk unit (including USB Stick\Thumb-drive)! Balder thank you very much but that does not work I still have no access to my USB hard drive.I'll explain exactly what I did: I have an USB SDD Hard Disk with a folder named "GHOST" with several images GHOST. In this Hard Disk i use grub4dos with your fabulous script "winbuilder_complete" with my EasyBoot ISO. I remade a Ghost image without loading automatic image GHO In my EasyBoot ISO i have a ghost.ima file in easyboot folder. @xlkillerQuote: ”my Hard Drive USB don't appear” AND Quote: “In [1:1] Lecteur NTFS i have nothing” Well isn’t [1:1] your USB harddrive (USB SDD Hard Disk)? As far as I can understand the USB harddisk shows up as [1:1] ![]() But unfortunately you cannot access anything from inside – correct? If this is a correct description – Ghost can see the USB harddisk but not access data from inside of it ![]() I have never noticed such a strange behaviour from Ghost ![]() It shouldn’t matter if you use FAT32 or NTFS ![]() But what version of Ghost are you running? balder Posted by xlkiller on Dec. 22 2010,10:14
i use GHOST 2003 ![]() Posted by balder on Dec. 22 2010,10:49
@xlkillerFor the record: I’m drawing the conclusion that Ghost CAN see the USB harddisk but you cannot access anything inside of it ![]() I think it’s a very good idea to step up the version of Ghost you are using. Ghost-2003 has limits. You cannot ghost Vista\Win-7 system properly as example ![]() Use instead ghost-11 ![]() Tip: you can find this version in all Hiren 10-versions, but not in Hiren-12 and to extract Ghost.exe (Hiren use UHA-zip-file) you can use my script easyboot-cab.script and option to extract files from any UHA-file ![]() I have done some tests and have no problem to access ghost-images on USB device (not tested with USB SDD Hard Disk – only “normal” USB harddisk and USB stick\thumbdrive). I strongly suggest that you test a simple USB stick and see if you can access files and folders from such device (you should be able to see files and folders as using explorer in Windows). balder Posted by xlkiller on Dec. 22 2010,11:53
I'll try it with Ghost 11 and I'll keep you posted.
