Hello balder ,
It's strange that I copy a Win8PE.iso to a 64GB USB stick and boot, run, it's ok.
But when I copy this same file to my USB Harddisk , when boot , error message : Win8PE.iso not contiguous
and can't boot.
I use WinContig to defrag it but still not defraged. How can I defrag a definite iso file instead of the program to search the iso files in USB device ?
Thanks a lot

Yes this is for sure a strange behaviour by the USB harddisk I don't think there is a 'quick fix' to this problem
I'm in a phase to modifying my scripts (including a different program for the defrag function in scripts) It will be done late in the evening tomorrow (or perhaps next day). Maybe it works better (avoiding 'WinContig'). However 'WinContig' is a reliable tool but you never know... On the other hand, you may in the end be forced to do a quick format to USB harddisk But this is the last solution to perform. It do happens file systems themselves getting fragmented. Let'scall it "file system fragmentation, sometimes called file system aging"
A simple (but circumstantial) solution is to backup your USB harddisk and then wipe out partition(s) and then recreate partition(s).
In normal case everything should be set up correctly at this point

Hello balder, Thanks for your answer, I'll try your last step suggestion to format USB Harddisk as my last choice. But I'll wait for your new script and try first.
As I've mention before , a same win8pe.iso copy to usb stick boot ok but usb harddisk cannot. But today I made a same win8pe with the same process but only a little content different. The new win8pe.iso then copy to usb stick. Still with error : iso is not contiguous !!
I use VMware to boot it is ok ? I really don't know how to control a newly made iso to be contiguous !! Is there a way to avoice this.
Thanks balder

However, I have my doubts that it will help in this case It is likely that you are forced to go the "tedious way" to resolve this issue

Hello balder , Before download your newly made scripts , I've use the last option way to reformat my usb harddisk boot partition. Before I've already format my usb harddisk before , but makes no different. This time I use full-format of my usb harddisk that takes a long time. Finally the win8pe.iso boot normal with no "iso is not contiguous" message.
balder , you really do me a great help. As I don't know full-format usb harddisk can solve the problem, without your advice I really don't know what to do with it.
A great thanks to you.

However this problem you got here, is a rare event - if it can be a comfort to you Hopefully it won't happens for a long time again...
Nice you solved it

Hello balder ,
I've mentioned before that I copy win8pe.iso to usb stick that boot ok without "iso not contiguous". That was say win8pe_A.iso
But when I copy another win8pe.iso , say win8pe_B.iso to the same usb stick. It happened "iso not contiguous" and can't boot.
So I did the same thing to full format the usb stick , and recopy all the iso in it. They all boot normal ok.
Thanks for you suggestion and close this topic
